Why doesn’t my Stripe payout match my bank statement?
The first question is whether you are comparing the bank deposit with Stripe’s net payout—not with gross charges or the date a customer paid.
Check these causes in order
1. Posting-date shift
Compare a reasonable date window around the payout or availability date. A bank may post the deposit later than Stripe reports the payout.
2. Net versus gross
Fees, refunds, disputes, and adjustments can reduce the net amount. Gross sales are not the bank deposit.
3. Currency mismatch
Confirm both rows use the same currency. Do not silently convert or match equal numbers across currencies.
4. Missing or ambiguous counterpart
If no bank deposit fits, keep the payout unmatched. If multiple deposits fit, mark the case ambiguous and inspect the references.
What a file comparison can and cannot tell you
A local comparison can surface exact matches, date-shift matches, ambiguous candidates, currency mismatches, unexplained differences, unmatched payouts, and unmatched bank deposits. It cannot prove why a bank rejected a transfer, perform tax advice, or allocate a split payout across invoices.
